Job Title:  MLSS COORDINATOR

 

Reports To:  DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT OF LEADERSHIP

 

General Job Description:

The MLSS Coordinator will be a critical part of the district team, supporting the Deputy Superintendent of Leadership and principals across the district to ensure BPS students are receiving appropriate interventions. Will ensure that students receive core instruction/ interventions and services at all layers.  This role will oversee student interventions and child studies so that they are appropriately implemented and compliant with state and federal requirements. Oversees district-wide Student Assistance Team (SAT) and 504 plans. Works with SAT/504 teams to ensure that interventions and child studies are compliant with state and federal requirements.  Oversees the implementation of the Multi-Layered Systems of Supports (MLSS).  The mission is to improve the achievement of all students, to include at-risk and special populations of students as defined by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).  

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and Implement Supportive Systems: Design data and communication systems that facilitate collaboration and transparency for the implementation of each school’s MLSS plan and Student Assistance Teams (SAT) districtwide. Work directly with principals, teachers, and SAT/504 chairs to implement routines that support the data-informed work of the SAT teams to ensure effective child studies and appropriate interventions are implemented effectively and meet all state and federal requirements. 
  2. Design and Implement Technical Assistance for Schools in Implementing Interventions: Plans, organizes, and coordinates professional development for district personnel to address the needs of students receiving interventions. Training all school sites on identifying the expected data required to initiate intervention response and the intervention curriculum expected to be used in each layer. Assist teachers, as well as, SAT and 504 teams with the selection of interventions that are research-based and measurable, along with the documentation process and documentation requirements. 
  3. Performance Management & Continuous Improvement: In partnership with their supervisor and alignment with the Strategic Plan, establish goals and metrics for intervention programs. Establish systems and routines to monitor progress against goals and opportunities to adjust in response to formative data and provide guidance to school leaders and relevant personnel for interpreting and acting in response to the data.
  4. Stakeholder Engagement & Coordination: Establish and maintain strong, collaborative, and candid relationships with school and community stakeholders, particularly families and community partners. Builds and maintains productive relationships with colleagues across the district to ensure alignment and integration of services.

Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee Student Assistance Teams (SAT) districtwide. 
  2. Support the work of the SAT teams to ensure an effective child study, appropriate interventions, and meaningful data. 
  3. Ensure that SAT team efforts comply with all state requirements. 
  4. Oversee 504 plans districtwide, in conjunction with school medical staff, where applicable. 
  5. Ensure that 504 team efforts comply with all state and federal requirements. 
  6. Assist SAT /504 and other teams with access to necessary data. 
  7. Assist SAT/504 teams with the selection of interventions that are research-based and measurable. 
  8. Ensure that the district is compliant with all reporting and timelines relating to SAT/504.
  9. Contributes to revisions to district policies and procedures related to Section 504/ADA, as necessary, to ensure that they are up-to-date and consistent with current requirements under these laws.
  10. Demonstrates a depth of knowledge of State and District Initiatives, math and science of reading foundational skills, content standards, benchmarks, and appropriate content resources.
  11. Collaborates with the Deputy Superintendent of Leadership, Director of Analytics, Assessment Coordinator, and Director of Curriculum and Instruction to collect data to monitor and gather information relative to trends in instructional practice that may positively or negatively impact student outcomes and overall performance measures.
  12. Manages and conducts professional development on platforms related to the effective implementation of the MLSS, testing, and data analysis.
  13. Contributes to the district professional development plan to support general education and specialized instruction aligned to the implementation of MLSS and the District 90 Day/DASH Plan
  14. Establishes, maintains, and enhances effective communication with district administration and other stakeholders.
  15. Demonstrates a commitment to professional growth, equity and ethical standards to advance the mission, goals, and policies of the Bernalillo Public School District.
  16. Attends training, conferences, workshops, etc., as appropriate, to enhance job knowledge and skills.
  17. Complies with the Code of Ethics of the Education Profession; upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives, regulations, BPS school board policies, as well as local, state and federal regulations.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Current New Mexico Teaching license with Endorsements as needed.
  2. Ability to pass employment verification.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree.
  2. Bilingual Keres or Spanish.
  3. Experience with professional development coordination.
  4. Classroom teaching experience serving Native American and/or Hispanic students in an integrated setting.

Physical Requirements:

Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), climbing stairs, reaching, squatting, kneeling, having full mobility of fingers/hands, and moving light furniture may be required, unless ADA accommodations have been mutually agreed on and does not create an undue hardship upon the district.

 

Work Environment:

Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air-quality. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. After hours work may be required. Travel to facilities throughout the district is integral to the job. 

 

Safety and Health:

Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions (blood borne pathogens, body fluids, etc.) 

 

Equipment/Material handled:

Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology, standard office equipment, and basic Office Computer program abilities. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher)
